Chapter Ten

Harper once again woke up to no Draven, which wasn’t a surprise. After last night, she didn’t know if she’d ever be able to face him again.

His touch had set her on fire.

She got out of bed, went to the bathroom, used the toilet, washed her hands, and winced. The guy who hit her yesterday had left a huge bruise on her face, not to mention her neck.

Tilting her head back, she saw the bruises, some of them the shape of fingertips. She’d been so afraid yesterday.

Draven, Axel, Buck, and Jett had come for her. They’d saved her.

Shaking her head, she left the bathroom, changed into a pair of jeans and shirt, grabbed her bag, and headed downstairs. Hannah was nowhere to be seen, but Ian was in the kitchen.

“You’re back,” she said.

He turned to look at her. The bruising was still there but not as bad on his nose.

“What did I tell you about causing trouble?” He slammed his cup down on the counter.

“I didn’t mean to hit you, Dad.” At least not that hard, but she didn’t add that.

“This, look at you. Your face. I asked for you to be a good girl. To be a lady and you’re getting into fights.”

“I was attacked yesterday. You’d have known if you were ever home.”

“Oh, so now it’s my fault, is it? Maybe you should consider what you’re doing. Just like your damn mother. You never know when to keep your mouth shut. The two of you were always fucking useless. Always. No wonder she killed herself. Best thing she ever did.”

Harper stepped back.

Even Ian looked guilty for what he said.

“I didn’t mean—”

“Yeah, you did. You meant every single word. I was walking home yesterday, and a guy attacked me. I didn’t get into any trouble.” With that, she turned away and left her home. Running sounded like quite a good thing to do.

She didn’t linger on her driveway waiting for a ride. Harper turned the corner and started to walk in the direction of the school. She’d hoped she and her dad could find some way to forgive. He had a new family, and she got it. He didn’t want to be reminded of her or the woman he’d been married to.

Tears filled her eyes as she thought of her mother, the pain she must have gone through. He didn’t want her around. He wanted his new life. She had nothing. No one.

You have someone.

Four someones.

This made her pause.

Draven. Axel. Buck. Jett. They were four guys that wanted her, who’d been there for her.

Join them. Never be alone again.

She turned her head as a car pulled up beside her. The window wound down, and she stared at Buck. Draven drove the car, while Axel and Jett were in the back.

“Hello, beautiful. Want a ride?”

She nodded. Jett climbed out of the car in the back, and she slid in, moving into the center.

Glancing over at Draven, she saw his pointed look. He’d been gone this morning. Jett climbed back in, and they were heading to school.
